The Collision Repair Shop of Michigan Fast and Affordable Jeep Repair

When the United States was about to enter the war raging in Europe, the U.S. Army approached more than a hundred companies, requesting prototypes of four-wheel-drive reconnaissance vehicles. Only two businesses, The American Bantam Car Company and Willys-Overland, responded to the request. The Army imposed an unachievable deadline of 49 days for delivering a functional prototype. When Willys requested further time, the army refused. The insolvent American Bantam Car Company has no engineers remaining on its workforce. Karl Probst, a talented Detroit-based freelance designer, responded to the Army’s request and began work. He began without compensation on July 17, 1940. Probst drew up detailed blueprints for the Bantam prototype, dubbed the Bantam Reconnaissance Car. These blueprints were completed in two days, followed by a cost estimate the following day. Bantam submitted their offer with plans in July. Spicer was to provide bespoke four-wheel drivetrain components. The majority of the vehicle was able to be manufactured using off-the-shelf car parts. In September, the prototype was finished in Butler, Pennsylvania and then transported to Camp Holabird, Maryland for Army testing.

Jeep is an American automotive brand owned by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, an Italian multinational automaker. Chrysler Corporation has bought the Jeep brand from American Motors, along with its assets. In the past, Jeep also made pickup trucks in addition to sport utility vehicles and off-road vehicles. The production of Jeep automobiles began in 1941, and the first civilian models debuted in 1945. They were the oldest manufacturer of off-road vehicles and sport utility vehicles. This has spurred the development of numerous utility vehicles. During World War II, the original Jeep vehicle was the primary light 4-wheel-drive vehicle for the United States Army and its allies. Other nations produce an abundance of Jeep models with similar military and civilian use. Willys-Overland submitted the initial trademark application in February of 1943. It was used with a lowercase letter to refer to off-road-capable vehicles manufactured by Jeep. In June 1950, Willys-Overland was the only manufacturer of Jeep automobiles following World War II. They were also awarded the right to register the name “Jeep” as a trademark.
